Enjoyable distraction

The Denver Broncos are in the playoffs and the home town is all a buzz. As I was driving home last night there were several buildings downtown lit in blue and orange. It made me happy to see it. My return to enjoying football has been gradual over the last 5 years or so, but my support for a team has been constant. While I think there are serious flaws in comparing being a fan to religious faith, there are some similarities. For me, it's just enjoyable to have a team to support and cheer for. It means little and ultimately does almost nothing for improving the world around us. However, for a short while, like a book or good play, it provides an enjoyable distraction. That to me is completely worth it.
